Public safety dispatchers provide a critical service to the Central Oklahoma region and all emergency personnel while performing their duties with integrity, quality, accountability and respect. Calltakers are the first people “on the scene” of every crime, fire and medical emergency.

The region’s Dispatcher of the Year award recognizes a 9-1-1 Dispatcher who has contributed significantly to the profession of public safety communications. Nominations were made during National Telecommunicator Week, and the recipient of the 2014 Dispatcher of the Year award is Cindy Howard from Norman Communications. Cindy started with Norman in 2000 and was promoted to supervisor in 2001. Along with being a shift supervisor, Cindy has had also been a Training Officer, CJIS Compliance Officer, Training Coordinator, Continuing Education Coordinator, and her current role is that of Emergency Medical Dispatch Quality Assurance Officer.
Cindy has devoted over 25 years to Public Safety Communications. Prior to joining the Norman Emergency Communications team, she worked at Prague Police Department, Lincoln and Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Offices, and Shawnee Police Department. Cindy also assists 9-1-1 ACOG with several projects and initiatives. She is a member of the 9-1-1 Institute Instructors, Central Oklahoma Emergency Response Team, Oklahoma TERT (Telecommunicator Emergency Response Team), and is the secretary for the Oklahoma Chapter of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials. She is indeed a valuable asset to central Oklahoma and the public safety of all its citizens.
Additionally, 9-1-1 ACOG is celebrating its 25th Anniversary of service to Central Oklahoma, and is recognizing dispatchers who were among the call-takers who answered those first 9-1-1 calls 25 years ago. Those dispatchers who will be recognized for their 25 years of service are as follows:
