CART, OU Host Central OK Clean Cities March 27

On March 27, the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) held a Central Oklahoma Clean Cities Coalition Stakeholder Meeting at the University of Oklahoma Transportation Operations Center. The meeting was co-hosted by Cleveland Area Rapid Transit (CART) and University of Oklahoma (OU) staff. The meeting featured a presentation and battery electric bus demonstration by Proterra.

Proterra designs, manufactures and delivers heavy-duty electric transit vehicles to customers across the United States. Their buses have logged more than four million miles of service.

Proterra representatives shared information regarding bus options, battery pack configurations, bus performance, and financing. In addition, stakeholders took a quick ride around campus to experience the bus first-hand.

In addition, the coalition welcomed Secretary of Energy and Environment Michael Teague who shared information regarding statewide energy and transportation policy initiatives.

“ACOG thanks Secretary Teague for supporting the work of the Clean Cities program and his leadership advancing alternative fuels in Oklahoma,” said John Sharp, ACOG Acting Executive Director. “Demonstrating new vehicles and technologies with our regional fleets is a hallmark of the Clean Cities program and we thank Proterra for bringing their electric bus to share with our stakeholders.”

OU and CART took stakeholders on a tour of the University of Oklahoma Transportation Operations Center and shared information about the University’s fleet program including their alternative fuel stations and fleet maintenance facilities.

“OU and CART have long been regional champions of alternative fuels and air quality improvements,” said Eric Pollard, Central Oklahoma Clean Cities Coordinator. “The region can take pride in the hard work and success of their staffs in deploying energy saving technologies.”
