ACOG Mourns the Loss of Valued Staff Member

In April, the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) mourned the loss of its 9-1-1 ACOG GIS Manager, Michael James Davis (Mike).

Mike was born on August 10, 1956 to Oris and Joy Davis of Duncan. He passed from this life on April 6, 2020.

“Mike possessed a contagious positive attitude towards life. Regardless of work, his life, or others circumstances, his response was always the same – ‘it’s going to be okay boss, God’s got this,’” Brent Hawkinson, 9-1-1 ACOG & Public Safety Director said.

Mike grew up in Duncan and graduated from Duncan High School in 1974. After high school, he studied Drafting at OSU-Okmulgee. He went on to work at Halliburton and was instrumental in helping to establish the nitrogen pump testing at the facility in Davis, OK.

Mike became interested in law enforcement and was a reserve officer for the Sheriff’s Department in Murray County. He later joined the police force in Marlow and served for 9 years advancing to Lieutenant. He left law enforcement to start his own business in Marlow called Web Designs Internet and Sign Shop, where he enjoyed expressing his creativity while making designs. He returned to the Marlow Police Department as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher and became interested in 9-1-1 mapping.

In 2014, he joined ACOG as the 9-1-1 ACOG GIS Manager and was well respected and known for his passion for mapping accuracy for 9-1-1.

Mike made on an impact, not only on the 9-1-1 ACOG GIS department, but also his ACOG colleagues.

“Mike was an exceptional colleague, mentor, and friend. He could always get a laugh out of me by giving sarcastic remarks or jokes; such as, when you asked how he was feeling, he would always say ‘with my fingers’.  He will be deeply missed,” Tanner Jones, 9-1-1 GIS Specialist said.

“Anytime I ran into Mike in the hall or in the break room, he would greet me with a ‘Mr. Pollard’. I’ll miss hearing that and him talking about his grandbabies, his days as a police officer in Marlow, and his takes on the topics of the day,” Eric Pollard, ACOG Air Quality & Clean Cities Coordinator said.

Mike was a member of Freedom Biker Church in Duncan. He loved riding his motorcycle, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, telling dad jokes, being creative, and spending time with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, and niece. He is survived by his son, Christopher Davis and wife Leslie; his daughter, Kara Conner and husband Sebastian, and his two granddaughters, Alivia and Sloane.

A memorial service for Mike Davis will be held Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Freedom Biker Church at 803 W. Walnut Ave., Duncan, OK 73533.
