Apply Now for Air Quality Small Grants

Program Funds Small Transportation Infrastructure Projects & Congestion Relief Efforts

Municipalities working to improve air quality in their area are encouraged to apply for an Air Quality Small Grant from the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG).

Summer months, particularly May through September, see conditions conducive to a chemical reaction that creates ground-level ozone pollution. Transportation is a significant source of precursors such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), the gasses that react to form ozone.

“The goal of the ACOG Air Quality Small Grant Program is to improve regional air quality by reducing reliance on the single-occupancy vehicle trip,” Hannah Nolen, ACOG Projects Coordinator II – Transit & Environmental said. “Our program approaches that goal by funding grants that propose small active transportation and transit infrastructure projects and efforts to relieve road congestion.”

$200,000 in total grant awards will be made available to eligible applicants through a competitive grant process. Applicants are required to provide a minimum of 20 percent in matching local funds, and grant awards will be conferred as reimbursement.

All projects have one year upon execution of a grant award contract to be completed in full. A variety of projects are eligible, but all must serve to address long-term reduction in transportation-related emissions that contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone.

The grant application window opens on Friday, October 2 and ends November 6.
