Central Oklahoma Celebrates Bike Month 2021

May is National Bike Month! According to the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month was established in 1956 as a chance to show the benefits and legitimacy of bicycling for transportation, recreation, and fitness. Some people will ride for their wallet, others will ride for their health or the environment. Either way, Bike Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the power of bicycling. There are many free activities planned throughout Central Oklahoma.

Central Oklahoma Bicycle Expo

ACOG and RIVERSPORT are hosting the inaugural Central Oklahoma Bicycle Expo! Come see unique bikes, shop local bike vendors, visit with local bike organizations, test ride E-bikes and mountain bikes, and learn how to ride safely and stay healthy.

Bike to Work Week

Bike to Work Week 2021 is May 17 – 23, with Bike to Work Day taking place Friday, May 21. The cities of Del City, Edmond, Guthrie, Norman, Oklahoma City, Piedmont, and Yukon are hosting organized rides.

Bike to Work Day is an annual event designed to encourage people to use their bikes as a means of transportation. According to the League of American Bicyclists, 40% of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get to work.

If you don’t feel comfortable riding in a group, or your community isn’t hosting a group ride, you can still participate by taking a picture on your ride to work and post it to social media using the hashtag #BikeCentralOK.
