The second Oklahoma Bike Summit will be held Friday, January 17th and Saturday, January 18th in Tulsa at the historic Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Billed as an event for “bicyclists, urban planners, transportation engineers, health professionals, architects, elected officials, state agencies and civic leaders”, the 2014 Oklahoma Bike Summit will feature two days of nationally-recognized speakers and homegrown experts and advocates to discuss the benefits bicycling offers the citizens and economy of Oklahoma.
On Friday the 17th the Oklahoma Bike Summit will kick off with an 8AM to 5PM bicycle facility design workshop lead by Michael Moule of NelsonNygaard and Dr. Anne Lusk of the Harvard School of Public Health with an evening reception to follow. Saturday the 18th will feature a range of speakers on topics including bicycle tourism, safety, public education and advocacy; speakers include Andy D. Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists, Jerry Norquist of Cycle Oregon, Saara Snow of the Adventure Cycling Association and ACOG’s own Kate Brady, Associate Planner for Bicycle, Pedestrian, Livability.
Planners certified through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) should note the Friday bicycle facility design workshop has been approved for eight certification maintenance credits.
The 2014 Oklahoma Bike Summit will be held at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, a 1931 Public Works Administration-constructed depot that formerly served as a railway hub before ceasing operation in 1967. The Summit is presented by FreeWheel, Inc., a Tulsa-based not-for-profit that promotes cycling, bicycle tourism and an annual, week-long bicycle tour across Oklahoma.
