ACOG Awards $13.4 million in Urban Area Surface Transportation Grants

$13.4 Million Awarded

The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) Board of Directors has approved grant funding awards for Federal Highway’s Urbanized Area Surface Transportation Block Grant program. The funds will be used for roadway widening, reconstruction and resurfacing, as well as bicycle, pedestrian upgrades. Three safety projects for roadway striping and signalization were also selected for funding.

A total of $13,413,519 was awarded to the applicants. During next year’s application cycle, ACOG anticipates awarding just over $19.6 million in grant funds.

Projects are scored through a competitive grant process, based on criteria relevant to the project type. These criteria include average daily traffic, road type, accident severity rate, surface condition, congestion corridors and project readiness. The scoring criteria is selected by member local governments and ACOG staff.

Eligible projects are funded at an 80 percent federal, and 20 percent local match. Some safety projects are eligible for 100 percent of federal funding.
