The Community Development division of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce announced in September that 11 Oklahoma cities are recipients of the Small Cities – Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) funding awards for fiscal year 2012. These cities can look forward to more efficient community services in the near future.
Two communities in Central Oklahoma were among grant recipients. The City of Yukon was awarded $66,765 for water system improvements. The City of Del City was awarded $68,441 for wastewater system improvements.
Each year, with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Commerce makes available various funding “set-asides,” or categorical funding pools, through the CDBG Program. The Small Cities set-aside was established for communities with a 2000 census population of 15,000 to 50,000, which are not HUD designated entitlement communities.
