[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUWtGNNG4q4]Those “swirly bulbs” that look like a pig’s tail have moved beyond novelty. When we hand these out at public events, people come clamoring for them as if we were handing out candy. A compact fluorescent light (CFL) that emits 60 watts (equivalent) of light, operates on 13 watts of actual electricity and don’t emit the heat that a regular incandescent bulb produces, so they are great for small rooms.

Using less electricity at home means that less electricity is produced at the power plant, which ultimately reduces emissions. Fewer emissions at the point source helps promote clean air, and clean air is something that we should never take for granted.

A few years ago, we became a pledge leader trying to get folks to make the switch to CFLs. The energy efficiency movement has expanded beyond bulbs, and has opened up to other products, such as appliances and home improvement initiatives.

We ask that you join us in the ENERGY STAR Change the World Campaign as part of our commitment to keeping our air clean in Central Oklahoma. Our goal is to encourage individuals, organizations and businesses in Central Oklahoma to help prevent 1,068,000 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. With your involvement, we can make this happen.
