City of OKC Office of Sustainability

Ryan Baker, Associate Planner, City of Oklahoma City Office of Sustainability, recently made a presentation to ACOG’s Areawide Planning and Technical Advisory Committee. The presentation highlighted sustainable design strategies in four Oklahoma City neighborhoods with flood control issues. They include:

Harding Charter Prep And Fine Arts EPA Schematic

A schematic illustrates possible green designs around Oklahoma City’s popular Harding Charter Prep and Harding Fine Arts Academy.

Green infrastructure strategies were identified through a technical assistance grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

(EPA). The City will explore multiple options for funding the actual projects including state and federal grants.

About the City of OKC Office of Sustainability

The Office of Sustainability is responsible for enhancing Oklahoma City’s sustainability efforts throughout the organization and the community by providing technical recommendations, sustainability planning and outreach services to City Departments and the public.
The purpose of the office is to integrate sustainability principles into decision making for improved economic, environmental and social health.

The office is working to develop the Oklahoma City Sustainability Plan to track and report both community and government operations indicators. This plan will align with the elements of planOKC, the City’s comprehensive plan, and serve as an implementation tool for the recommended policies.
